Hunger Study 2026
The Ohio Association of Foodbanks (OAF) represents Ohio’s 12 Feeding America foodbanks and their more than 3,600 local hunger relief partners and programs serving people in need across all 88 counties. As Ohio’s largest charitable response to hunger, our statewide network works every day to help individuals and families have access to nutritious food and the support they need to thrive.
The Hunger in Ohio 2026 Study is based on survey responses from 2,644 households that accessed assistance through Ohio's food bank network. Data were collected between April 18 and May 22, 2026, through a confidential electronic survey completed by food pantry visitors across the state.
The survey was conducted in partnership with Ohio's 12 Feeding America food banks. Participating pantries distributed flyers with unique QR codes that connected visitors to a secure online survey. In addition to completing the survey, participants had the opportunity to volunteer for a more in-depth interview. These conversations added important context to the data, helping to elevate the voices and lived experiences of Ohioans facing food insecurity. Survey participants received a modest incentive in recognition of their time and feedback. Following data collection, 2,644 unique and verified responses were included in the final analysis. To ensure reliability and consistency, the survey incorporated validated questions from established research instruments, including the Feeding America Client Survey and other nationally recognized sources. Data analysis and interpretation for the Hunger in Ohio 2026 Study were conducted by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks.
More than a collection of statistics, this study provides insight into the challenges and experiences of Ohioans working hard to support themselves and their families. The findings help illustrate the realities many households face, while the stories shared by neighbors bring those experiences to life. Together, this research helps Ohio's foodbank network better understand community needs, inform programs and services, and advocate for policies that strengthen food security across the state.
